Mitzvah Day 2022

Mitzvah Day is the largest single day of volunteering in the metropolitan Detroit Jewish community. There are several volunteer and giving opportunities on Mitzvah Day, December 25th. Mitzvah Day brings together volunteers across faiths to visit organizations through metro Detroit. Please contact the organizations directly to sign up for volunteer opportunities and mention “Mitzvah Day” when doing so.

Volunteer project: Kitchen work – prep and serve whatever is on the menu for the day –
potentially also doing prep for the next day too.

Arrival Details:
Call Cass Community for gate code. Pull up to the back of the lot to park. Enter
down the ramp. Masks required.

kitchen and providing overnight shelter for those residents who have no place to sleep. 

Volunteer Project:  Helping to serve food from Bed & Bread Club trucks and distribute food from 11-6. 3 volunteers needed per 2 trucks.

Assisting with dishes and laundry, as well as some kennel cleaning

Dress Code:
Please wear long pants, and clothing that you don’t mind getting dirty. If you’ll be
assisting in our kennel area, we have shared rainboots that you are welcome to use to keep
your feet dry

Arrival Details:
Shelter is closed to the public 12/25. Please enter through the employee parking
lot. When you pull up, there is an intercom button, please press this and let them know that
you are here to volunteer, and someone will let you in. If you run into any issues with this,
please call Cassie (248)480-3453 and she will be able to assist. Once in the lot, if you haven’t
already called Cassie, please do and she can direct you into the building.

Volunteer Project: Holiday Meals on Wheels. Once the sign-up is completed, Cierra, volunteer coordinator, will call to confirm receipt, background check results and location to arrive Christmas morning (1980 Bagley)

Arrival Details: When volunteers arrive at location, they will have a choice where to deliver meals (Eastside, Westside, Highland Park, Hamtramck, 5 Grosse Pointes)

The volunteer will drive their own vehicles and the meal delivery times is from two to three hours.
